| | NJ Exit 3: Give someone an amazing holiday gift, or just take an I-95 pit stop yourself and try the Adventure Aquarium's "Swim with the Sharks" program. After a briefing and snorkeling lesson, you enter the Shark Realm "where you’ll come within inches of sand tiger sharks, sandbar sharks, nurse sharks and barracuda", and if that wasn’t enough to rattle your nerves, you are then allowed into the Sting Ray Lagoon to swim with and feed dozens of sting rays. To prove your bravery, a photo is taken and you are awarded the snorkel and mask for your memories. While there, you just gotta see the hippos. Though Button and Genny jump and float (can't swim) and seem so playful under water, they are the most dangerous animal to man and have no natural predators. There's a cafe, 4-D theatre and a huge gift shop. 1 Aquarium Dr. Hours: Daily 9:30-5 www.adventureaquarium.com Tel: 800-616-JAWS or 856-365-3300
| | 2 - “Instant” custom-made suit | | VA Exit 173: The Tailored Man - Like the ubiquitous MacDonald's hamburger which tastes the same the world over, the well-made Hong Kong suit has been stitched by Chinese tailors for travelers from all over the world in pretty much the same time-honored way. They have honed the skill of taking a Savile row type of fitting - with 19 measurements - and offer suits in a myriad of fabrics, and they can have it ready for you in a couple of weeks (or 7 days if you must have it!), at very affordable prices. Shirts can be custom-made too. Get measured on your way down South and pick up your custom suit and/or shirts on your return trip. This is a US beachhead for one of these companies: The Tailored Man, 5243 Duke St. Hours: Mon-Fri 10-6, Sat 10-5. www.tailoredman.com Tel: 703-751-7868.
| | 3 - Leave some “Spare” Room for BBQ Chicken |
| | SC Exit 38: Strike Zone - Food and fun can go together if you stop at the Strike Zone bowling alley in Brunswick GA and sample their lip-smacking barbequed chicken. Bowling must be coming back, for these are spanking brand new lanes. You can also play in the amusement arcades or billiards room. The Pit Barbecue is a full barbecue restaurant on the premises where you can also eat chicken sandwiches, salads, burgers, baked stuffed potatoes and an award winning Brunswick stew. 380 Millennium Blvd. Hours: Mon-Thurs 10-10, Fri and Sat 10 to midnight, Sun 11-10. www.tgistrikezone.com Tel: 912-265-6600. | | 4 - Say “Cheese” in NYC | | NY Exit 1 or 2: Here’s a new idea in hotel guest amenities. Technology companies who want prospective customers to try their new products have turned to hotel chains for help. Sony and Fujifilm USA have teamed up with Rosewood Hotels and Resorts to offer guests the use of digital cameras and portable game consoles during their stays. On I-95, the first one I’ve found to offer this is the swanky Carlyle in New York City. They have the Fuji FinePix V10 digital camera, which is a pocket-size camera with four video games built into it. Go crazy taking pix of the Big Apple, and then they will download them for you to take home. Since they only have a few to hand out, if you want to try one out ask the concierge when you arrive. 35 East 76th St. Tel: 800 227-5737 or 212.744.1600.
